Job Summary:

The Social Mobilizer at the Asia Organization for Sustainable Development (AOSD) will play a critical role in community outreach, engagement, and mobilization. The primary responsibility of the Social Mobilizer is to raise awareness of AOSD’s projects and initiatives within local communities, encouraging active participation and fostering collaboration between beneficiaries, local leaders, and project teams. The Social Mobilizer will work closely with the project coordinator and other stakeholders to ensure that community needs and concerns are addressed, contributing to the overall success of the organization’s initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Community Outreach and Engagement:

  • Conduct regular visits to communities to raise awareness of AOSD’s projects and their benefits.
  • Facilitate community meetings, discussions, and workshops to inform and involve local populations in project activities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with community leaders, local organizations, and stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of projects.
  • Act as a liaison between the community and the project team, ensuring that the voices and concerns of the community are heard and addressed.

2. Awareness-Raising and Advocacy:

  • Organize awareness campaigns to inform communities about project objectives, health, education, livelihoods, and other development-related issues.
  • Promote the participation of marginalized groups, including women, youth, and persons with disabilities, in project activities and decision-making processes.
  • Facilitate focus group discussions and participatory assessments to gather community input and feedback.

3. Training and Capacity Building:

  • Assist in organizing and conducting training sessions and capacity-building workshops for community members.
  • Provide guidance and support to community groups to help them understand project goals and enhance their participation.
  • Identify and train community volunteers to support project activities and ensure sustainability at the grassroots level.

4. Monitoring and Reporting:

  • Monitor community participation and the progress of project activities in the field, ensuring that targets are being met.
  • Report on challenges, successes, and community feedback to the project coordinator and contribute to planning and decision-making.
  • Maintain accurate records of community engagement activities, meetings, and feedback for project reporting purposes.

5. Coordination with Project Teams:

  • Work closely with the project team to align community mobilization activities with overall project objectives.
  • Assist in the coordination of project logistics, including organizing events, workshops, and trainings within the community.
  • Ensure the smooth flow of information between the project team and community members, helping to identify and resolve any issues that arise.

6. Problem-Solving and Conflict Resolution:

  • Identify potential conflicts or challenges within the community related to project activities and work towards resolving them through dialogue and collaboration.
  • Mediate discussions between community members and project staff when necessary to ensure mutual understanding and cooperation.

Qualifications:

1. Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Community Development, or a related field. Relevant experience may substitute formal education.

2. Experience:

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience working in community mobilization, preferably within the non-profit or development sector.
  • Experience working on donor-funded projects and familiarity with rural or underserved community settings is an asset.
  • Proven track record in community outreach, advocacy, and participatory approaches.

3. Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with community members and leaders.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail, especially in documenting fieldwork.
  • Capacity to engage with culturally diverse communities and be sensitive to their needs.

4. Language:

Proficiency in the local language(s) spoken within project areas is required, with a working knowledge of English being an asset.

Working Conditions:

  • The Social Mobilizer will primarily work in the field, frequently traveling to rural or remote areas to engage with communities.
  • This position may require flexible working hours, including evenings and weekends, depending on community schedules and needs.
